YorkCounts to participate
in regional meetings

As part of its ongoing commitment to engage stakeholders across York County, YorkCounts and the York-Adams Smart Growth Coalition will team up with the York County Economic Development Corp. and the York County Planning Commission to present a series of town hall meetings starting in late September. The meetings will provide regional updates on efforts to implement the county’s new economic development strategy. Each event will also feature a panel discussion on ways that smart growth concepts could fit into the strategy. The first meeting is Sept. 21 at the Penn Township Building. To register, contact Shanna Weist at shanna@yorkadamssmartgrowth.org. For more information, call Roy Livergood at 717-771-9870 or click here to see the invitation.

Thoughts on suburban blight
Columbia Avenue in Lancaster County is a kind of suburbia. Except it's not the sparkling suburbia of new developments and power centers with huge big-box retail and fancy chain restaurants. This is 50-year-old suburbia, home of the county's first McDonald's and various strip shopping centers. And it's in pretty bad shape.
